The Mac Willems Award - IB Student of the Year
Mac was a longtime IB Coordinator at Mt. Rainer High School in Washington and was one of the original founders of the Northwest Association of IB World Schools (NIBA). Mac also worked extensively for the IB Organization serving as a site visitor, consultant, and exam moderator. In the classroom, Mac excelled as an English and TOK teacher. Mac was known for his calm demeanor as well as his kindness. He was devoted to his profession and was truly a great role model for students. Mac passed away in the Summer of 2010.
The Doug Kavanaugh Award - CAS Award
Doug served as a teacher and then IB Coordinator at Capital High School for 21 years. He then moved to Oregon where he worked in the Beaverton School District at the district level serving in the role as an IB advocate. Doug’s major contribution was organizing NIBA schools in a variety of fundraising activities, involving Adopt-A-Landmine. With his inspirational leadership, this fundraising project was highly successful and was recognized both nationally and internationally throughout the IB community. Doug passed away in May 2006.
